The Six Most Awesome Rooftop Bars in Chicago

girls-night-out-shutterstock_161551868Chicago is the place to be when you want to shoot some pool, have a few beers, meet somebody, or just relax with a cocktail. The city’s awesome rooftop bars mix the fun of an ordinary bar with the vast sights amid the skyscrapers. Choosing the six best was tough due to strong competition, but these are definitely the coolest.

The Garage Bar & Sandwiches

This casual bar with a roomy rooftop deck is a great place to try new beers and a hearty sandwich from their menu. The industrial bar on the ground floor has shuffleboard and darts. The Garage Bar & Sandwiches is on 6154 N. Milwaukee Ave, between Huntington and Hyacinth, and is open till 2:00 a.m. Sunday to Friday, and 3:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Tanta

Maybe someone you know really wants to visit a rooftop bar, but you’re more interested in a good restaurant. This unique Peruvian spot has both, and is one of thirty different restaurants owned by renowned chef Gastón Acurio. Meanwhile, in the bar, enjoy Tanta’s local favorite: pisco sour, and enjoy the sights. Tanta is on 118 W Grand Ave, and is open till 9:00 p.m. on Sunday and Monday, 11:00 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, and midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Fountainhead

The organic Fountainhead is a bit classier, and remains a less-crowded secret for its patrons. They offer a menu for visitors of their rooftop garden, making this a good spot for a healthy, delicious meal, way above typical sports bar food. Fountainhead is on 1970 W. Montrose Ave. and is open till 2:00 a.m. Sunday to Friday and 3:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The J. Parker

On the 13th-floor of Hotel Lincoln, you can see breathtaking views of the park. Chef Paul Virant heads this bar and restaurant with seasonal dishes and cocktails named after popular vacation destinations. Hotel Lincoln is on 1816 N Clark St. and The J. Parker is open till 1:00 a.m. every day of the week.

NoMI Lounge

NoMI Lounge, on the seventh floor of Park Hyatt, is casual, but still offers the finer things, like sushi, creative small plates, and even caviar. The bustle of Michigan Avenue can be mesmerizing, and the air from NoMI’s roof is one of sophistication and success. NoMI Lounge is on 800 N Michigan Ave, between Chicago Ave and Pearson St, and the bar is open till midnight every day of the week.

Drumbar

Finally, this bar on the Raffaello Hotel has leather banquette benches and an outdoor deck with fire pits. The bar is the main focus here, led by the team of Whitney Morrow, Gary Matthews, and Marko Tomovic. Often used as a venue for corporate events, this is one of the most VIP hangout spots in the city. Raffaello Hotel is on 201 E. Delaware Place and Drumbar is open till midnight from Sunday to Wednesday, and 2:00 a.m. from Thursday to Saturday.

You’re spoiled for choice when it comes to rooftop bars, and among these six, you’re sure to find a favorite. Drink responsibly and have fun!
